The Alamo is the fifth mission in the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site complex. It is located right off what is now the river walk, but in 1836 during the Battle of the Alamo that killed Davy Crockett I am sure it wasn’t so stroll friendly. For the Alamo being so famous it sure was disappointing. I am glad we went, just to see it and ask where the basement is, but I wouldn’t visit it again.
The plan for the San Antonio River Walk started in 1929, and has been continuously developing since. The first restaurant to open along the river walk, which is still operating to this day, was constructed in 1946. Unlike the Alamo, this was exactly as I imagined, and even more fun being there in person. Because of eclipse tourism the wait for a boat ride and for a table at the original restaurant was over an hour so after our walk we left. I suppose we will have to come back to complete the experience.
