Travels north, east, south, and west of our Oceanside home base.

Gruene (prounounced ‘green’), full of music and history, is a highlight in Texas. German farmers first settled in this town in 1845. Gruene Hall, built in 1878, (and where we spent all of our time) is Texas’ oldest continually operating dance hall. It is a 6,000 square foot building, little of which has changed since it was built. Gruene Hall has hosted the most famous people in the industry such as Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, LeAnn Rimes, George Strait and Lyle Lovett. We enjoyed the music Linda Gail Lewis, known as the Queen of Rockabilly. Gruene Hall is free and open to people of all ages. We couldn’t have asked for a better day in Texas as we await the pending total solar eclipse.

Two more outstanding Texan singer/songwriters, although from different areas – Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Townes Van Zandt.
