Although Hilo has been threatened by Mauna Loa eruptions, its main threat is a tsunami (Hawaii’s deadliest natural disaster). The risk doesn’t stop people from living here, as the Big Island’s most populated city, or from visiting. Hilo has a lot to offer, kid friendly swim areas, sea turtles, Kula Shave Ice with its organic homemade syrups and coconut cream haupia topping, historic architecture, daily farmer’s market, giant banyan trees and Rainbow Falls (a no hiking required waterfall). To say the least, Hilo is vibrant.

It’s fun to think we are parallel waterfalling! Fantastic photos and what a trip! You always do it so well, Brady. I love it all. We have never been to the Big Island. Maybe next time.
It is VERY different from the other islands. It is so new! So little soil. So much volcanic action. Love it.
