Ponce Lighthouse was built in 1887 for $200,000. While it still operates to this day as a private navigation aid it is also a National Historical Landmark. At 175 feet tall Ponce Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Florida and the third tallest in the United States. If you climb up to the top (which is included in the very nominal price of admission to the museum) it can be a great reminder that you are, in fact, still very afraid of heights.

With your feet on the ground there are amazing exhibits on the property as well as inside the keepers dwellings. They even have a few cuban rafts that have washed ashore after desperate attempts to make it to the very ground that I am thankful to be standing on. The museum also has a collection of lighthouse lenses, including the original lens used back in 1887.

Love your comment about heights – the California Tower in Balboa Park reminded me of that! But such a view! And those lenses are gorgeous.
    Very fun post.

    1. I loved the lenses too. They are so beautiful.
