Travels north, east, south, and west of our Oceanside home base.

A favorite place of ours to stop as we head north from the 5 to the 395 is Red Rock Canyon State Park. It is located at the southern most tip of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, where it meets the El Paso Mountain Range of the Mojave Desert. Usually we pull off on the west side of CA-14 because there is more hiking and more incredible rock formations to explore, but today we parked on the east side in Red Cliffs Natural Preserve, a small section of the 27,000 acre California State Park. The red banded, remarkably eroded sandstone is so dramatic, it is the perfect place to start a road trip, enjoying California’s unique geology.

    Next trip to Tahoe!!!

    1. You keep saying that. You just don’t come up this way. There is a campground there. Not amazing like the Alabama Hills, but convenient.
