Forty years ago Forrest Mars (the Mars candy billionaire who invented the Milky Way bar) started a high end, small batch chocolate company, Ethyl M Chocolates, named after his mother. If you go to the factory in Henderson not only can you do a self guided tour of the factory or do a wine and chocolate pairing class, you can also enjoy your purchases in their three acre cactus garden. It is Nevada’s largest cactus garden, featuring 300 species of plants. The factory workers had the day off today, Thanksgiving, so we didn’t get to see the full production of candies, but we got the idea (and the free sample).

I really always love reading your blog. But this post really hit a note. Each morning I join a ham radio net from 7:45 to 8:45 where I present articles and a trivia question. For Christmas Im using a lot of trivia regarding toys and candy. This post to Four Points Bulletin (not for the first time) inspired research and a trivia question to wit:
What was the first name of the founder of Mars Candy Company?
Forrest Mars, Sr.
John Mars
Forrest Mars, Jr
Frank Mars
Answer: Frank Mars started the company, but forty years ago his son Forrest Mars, Sr. (the Mars candy billionaire who invented the Milky Way bar) started a high end, small batch chocolate company, Ethyl M Chocolates, named after his mother. If you go to the factory in Henderson not only can you do a self guided tour of the factory or do a wine and chocolate pairing class, you can also enjoy your purchases in their three acre cactus garden.
