Kinkakuji (otherwise known as the Golden Pavilion) is a zen buddhist temple in Kyoto. It is one of many sites that makes up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto, and it is a National Special Historic Site as well as a National Special Landscape. When it was built by a poet and nobleman in the 1300s it was not painted with pure gold leaf as it is today. That did not happen until 1950s, when it was rebuilt after a fire. Nothing but the best for the buddhists!

Again, are you guys the only people in Japan?! Gorgeous images. What memories. Boy, you’ll need this blog to keep track of the awesomeness.

    1. Next time we visit it will be winter. So there will really be less people who I won’t have to work so hard to crop them out!
