Four Points Bulletin

It was 4°F when we were packing up our stuff this morning so we waited until 10:00 before meeting at Three Bear Lodge to suit up for our snowmobile adventure today. At 10:00am it was 10°F, with the wind chill factor driving 45 mph it means -38.5°F so proper layers are crucial. A1 was wearing thermals, thick leggings, wool socks (with handwarmers), a fleece zip up sweater, a waterproof jacket, a beanie, a snowmobile suit, and gloves (with handwarmers). Unbelievably there was no protesting even though it was difficult to move with so many layers. In our super warm layers of clothing we left West Yellowstone for Two Top Trail, a 30 mile loop, one of the most famous trails in North America. After gaining 2,000 miles of elevation in the Targhee National Forest we reached the apex of the mountain for views of Lionhead, the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park, and ghost trees in the foreground. Ghost trees are not snow covered trees but trees exposed to moisture-filled wind that freezes trees on contact. Usually the top is covered with clouds so thick there is little to no visibility but we lucked out today with blue skies. It could not have been a more epic day exploring what appeared to be a movie set designed by Tim Burton or an art project created by Salvador Dalí.
