Mission San Juan Capistrano is home to the oldest building in California that is still in use, Father Serra’s church, a chapel built in 1782. This chapel is the only building still standing that Father Junipero Serra has been documented to celebrate mass. Although we spent some time in the chapel, our favorite areas are outdoors, in the secret garden and the various colorful, sweet smelling courtyards.

Wonderful trip and accompanying post.Thank you for all the interesting journeys and experiences do A1 and me too!
Any time! We do have FUN exploring!
Gorgeous chapel! The ceiling is a work of art, as is the alter.
I couldn’t agree more. There are so many details to notice. I bet you could spend an hour in the church alone. Unless you have a toddler, then you just take the tear-free minutes allotted…
I highly recommend the St. Joseph’s Day and Swallows Return if you return one day. This mission is a true treasure. Loved your viewpoint.
