John’s Beachcombing Museum in Forks is amazing. There is nothing else like it in the world, not to this magnitude. John began beachcombing in 1976. His entire collection is on display in his museum, which used to be his plumbing shop before he retired seven years ago. There are tons of items in the museum and on his property, including tsunami disaster debris and shipping container contents, all of it artfully and meticulously arranged. John is featured in an award-winning documentary, Lost and Found. In the movie, he goes to Japan to meet family members whose items were taken to sea after the devastating tsunami hit the island, returning the found objects to their rightful owners.
I swear, if I found even one of some of things he has on display, I would be set for life. And then there is John, finding 75 glass floats in one day as his personal record.

There was a pamphlet at our hotel in Forks. Otherwise we never would have known about it. It’s crazy how many amazing things he has found. If he himself wasn’t there telling you about it you wouldn’t even believe it.
I would so like to visit John’s Museum, “A” must have had a great time seeing all those amazing, curious new things.
She really enjoyed looking at everything. John is smart though, he had the sand area that could be touched. Which she liked even more!

I highly recommend it! It’s a blast into the past. Like this part of Washington got stuck in the 80s.
What a wonder-filled place!! I haven’t been back to Forks since the early 1980’s, but we are headed to the Kalaloch this month, so we will definitely stop in!

I always look at the brochures hotels, restaurants and visitor’s centers give away. They share the local treasures no one else knows about. We found an awesome Pigeon Museum in Oklahoma City that way. We were just in Forks last summer and missed this completely, though John was probably not open. Okay, we have to go back. Loved this entire post and will try to find his film to watch.
