The Self-Realization Fellowship in Encinitas was founded in 1937 by Paramahansa Yogananda (known for bringing yoga and mediation to the West). The Monterrey pine protected by the wood screen was a gift to Yogananda from the orient. The tree is located south of the public area of the meditation gardens (if you don’t know direction face the ocean and look left).
The meditation gardens are a place to enjoy living in (or visiting) Southern California. The lush gardens, koi ponds and ocean views are idyllic. Regardless if you knowingly meditate, the result of being here is mindfulness.
