Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours is what our summer southern sojourn is all about; cruising through Louisiana’s 9,000 miles of waterways, searching for alligators and turtles, absorbing the sights, smells and sounds of the bayou. This swamp tour is like taking the Jungle Cruise (sans jokes) on the first minute of the Pirates of the Caribbean, for an hour and a half. Captain Brent, a local, was so informative, answering everyone’s questions thoroughly (even questions about Australian crocodiles). Besides alligators, we saw a soft shell turtle and a blue dragonfly with a green head.
Its relaxing being on a pontoon boat in a national swamp preserve. Its slow and quiet. The perfect place to play the banjo, if I had mine. A1 was so at home in the bayou looking for critters. She has been talking a lot lately about wanting to be a scientist. I think our travels are sealing her fate.
