San Diego Botanic Garden’s mission statement is “we garden to create, share, and apply plant wisdom to our world.” The gardens give people of all ages the opportunity to be impressed by mother nature, to walk amongst plants rarely seen in Southern California. Their hundreds of Botanic Garden gardeners are passionate about plants, evidenced by pristine gardens.
One of my favorite areas to walk is the Mexican garden, where life-sized succulent people happily dance and play music for guests.
When you visit the San Diego Botanic Garden website there is a list of flowers in bloom, but in the case of the Sapphire Tower, the information is posted all over the website. Chilean Sapphire Tower only blooms once every few years. The filament, pollen tube and pedals are a rich, deep blue-green, in the center there is a neon orange anther and a bright yellow stigma.
It is like nothing I have ever seen.
