Agua Hedionda Lagoon is a 400 acre estuary, saltwater wetland, and watershed. Since 2006, the Discovery Center, which is on the eastern end of the lagoon, has been educating the public about this threatened coastal wetland and the plants, animals, and people that have depended on it. There is a 1/4 mile nature trail that leads you close to the lagoon, but the main attraction is all of the animal ambassadors that live on site. There is quite a collection of vertebrates and invertebrates to admire.
Beautiful bird! What type of hawk is it?
The larger picture is a peregrine falcon. The smaller, lower picture is an American kestrel. Both were curious about their picture being taken, but the kestrel even more so.
This is now on our list for when we migrate South next time. Awesome.
