Four Points Bulletin

Travels north, east, south, and west of our Oceanside home base.

Mission San Juan Capistrano is home to the oldest building in California that is still in use, Father Serra’s church, a chapel built in 1782. This chapel is the only building still standing that Father Junipero Serra has been documented to celebrate mass. Although we spent some time in the chapel, our favorite areas are outdoors, in the secret garden and the various colorful, sweet smelling courtyards.

Gorgeous chapel! The ceiling is a work of art, as is the alter.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. There are so many details to notice. I bet you could spend an hour in the church alone. Unless you have a toddler, then you just take the tear-free minutes allotted…

I highly recommend the St. Joseph’s Day and Swallows Return if you return one day. This mission is a true treasure. Loved your viewpoint.
