We are in Sequoia National Park not just to see giant sequoias, but specifically to see the general. The General Sherman Tree is the world’s biggest tree; this single organism is 275 feet tall, has a 36 feet diameter at the base, and weighs an estimated 6,167 tons. Luckily our trip to the sequoias involved a spring storm, so there was parking available in the small General Sherman Tree designated parking lot and we didn’t have to wait in line for our celebrity shot of the famed tree. After taking our family picture, we continued on, enjoying Congress Trail for a snowy walk amongst other giant sequoias, not having to share the scenery with too many other visitors.
An indescribable feeling to be in the presence of such a tree. I’ve often tried to imagine what such an enormous life-span would feel like.
Hopefully that kind of life span would come with infinite wisdom, and as a result maybe trees like these would not on the endangered list.
