Four Points Bulletin

Travels north, east, south, and west of our Oceanside home base.

Thomas Mountain is located between Anza and Idyllwild, in Riverside County. It is part of the San Bernardino National Forest and so it is within the yellow post site network that we recently started exploring. There is nothing better than camping in the great outdoors, sans light and sound pollution, for free. BYOT (bring your own toilet).

There are plenty of trees for hanging hammocks, acorns for collecting, birds to imagine petting, and stars for counting. We chose yellow post site 7, but we had our choice along Forest Road 6S13. (It’s always a concern before arrival there will be nothing available since it is first come, first serve.). But so far, so good. The yellow post sites are well marked and easy to find along side the dirt forest service roads.

Yellow post sites are a breath of fresh, lower oxygen, air in densely populated Southern California.

Exquisite photos! A tree with a belly button – wonderful. And most beautiful – untouched by fire. What a beautiful sight!

    1. Ha. Thanks. There were a lot of trees in the area that are partially burnt.
Our hammock straps are covered with soot…

How wonderful for A to get to camp at such a young age.

    1. She loves it. And only makes camping like ten times harder than need be… 🙃

This one line made me smile so much, “There are plenty of trees for hanging hammocks, acorns for collecting, birds to imagine petting, and stars for counting.” What a joyous childhood you are creating and I’m so happy to be able to watch it happen. Thanks for sharing.
