Thomas Mountain is located between Anza and Idyllwild, in Riverside County. It is part of the San Bernardino National Forest and so it is within the yellow post site network that we recently started exploring. There is nothing better than camping in the great outdoors, sans light and sound pollution, for free. BYOT (bring your own toilet).
There are plenty of trees for hanging hammocks, acorns for collecting, birds to imagine petting, and stars for counting. We chose yellow post site 7, but we had our choice along Forest Road 6S13. (It’s always a concern before arrival there will be nothing available since it is first come, first serve.). But so far, so good. The yellow post sites are well marked and easy to find along side the dirt forest service roads.
Yellow post sites are a breath of fresh, lower oxygen, air in densely populated Southern California.
