The San Bernardino National Forest encompasses 824,000 acres of land within San Bernardino and Riverside counties. It ranges in elevation from 2,000 to 11,500 feet. We were camping just south of Big Bear Lake, at about 7,000 feet elevation. From yellow post campsite 30, we could walk to a lake view in about ten minutes. There is no established trail, but it is an easy hike, filled with giant pines, squirrels, birds, and authentic hiking sticks. South Shore Big Bear Lake, where site 30, 29, 28 and 25 can be found, is filled with established hiking trails as well. Next time we come, we need more time.
