The Living Coast Discovery Center opened its doors (originally as the Chula Vista Nature Interpretative Center) in 1987. It is located in the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, a 316 acre salt marsh estuary. Living Coast’s mission is to “inspire the community to connect with and care for our coastal environment.” This nonprofit environmental education center is both a zoo and an aquarium. There are walking trails as well, which we didn’t have the opportunity to explore on this trip. Honestly, Chula Vista isn’t typically where we would spend the day, but now that we know this conservation-focused educational center exists, I am sure we will return soon.
