The Hollywood Walk of Fame has been honoring movie stars since 1960. It is one of the most iconic places in Los Angeles. Between the 2,500+ stars and the architecture on Hollywood Blvd, there is a plethora of interesting sights.

As we walked passed the TCL Chinese Theatre (aka Grauman’s Chinese Theatre) I heard an employee advertising a tour starting soon, so we partook. The theater, located behind all of those famous hand and footprints, was built in 1927 and has hosted (and continues to host) red carpet movie premieres since its inauguration. Keye Luke (a Chinese-born American actor) painted the detailed murals in the lobby. Besides the ornate Chinese themed interior, there is some encased Hollywood memorabilia inside, as well as concession stand snacks for sale. The Chinese Theatre has been a cultural and historic landmark since 1968. The thirty minute tour (which includes a fifteen minute video on the big screen) was very informative.

This was the girls’ first trip to Hollywood. We have the La Brea Tar Pits and Griffith Observatory on the list for our next visits. It is fun to be tourists pretty close to home.

Wow! Spectacular photos – the theater is gorgeous! And I was surprised to see that Disneyland has its own star.

    1. Disneyland’s star is actually on the edge of a sidewalk, close to a building, so you cannot walk on it. I am not sure why, you can walk on all the others!
A bunch of Walt’s characters have stars too (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Snow White, Winnie the Pooh… and the list goes on!).
If you are ever in LA, I recommend it all! We parked on the street on Hollywood Blvd. and the tour was $10/person. So it is a pretty inexpensive day!

I love going there! So fun to see. I loved the wax museum too. Need to take Lea one day! 😊

    1. I haven’t been to the wax museum but I thought about it! This is only my second time going yo Hollywood Blvd. It reminded me I need to go more often!

What a great post. I have been to Hollywood numerous times. Our Japanese Sister City guests always had to go there, so I went, too. There is so much going on and great for people watching. I am beyond jealous about the Chinese Theater tour. I hadn’t heard of that. Next time! I have La Brea Tar Pits on my list, too. It’s weird even walking near there as tar oozes out of cracks in the sidewalk still. You guys are being great CA tourists. Well done!

    1. We are having so much fun! I highly recommend the theater tour. You actually get to watch a short film in the theater. Super cool.
