Eighty acre Liberty Park is the second largest park in Salt Lake City. It was established in 1881, purchased from the Brigham Young Estate. The park has a pond, Brigham Young’s grist mill, Tracy Aviary, a huge playground (first built in 1912), a greenhouse, a pool, a jogging path, tennis courts, bocce ball, etc. The park is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places, as is the grist mill (which is separately listed). Built in 1852 the mill is the oldest commercial building still standing in Utah.

Eight acres of Liberty Park is occupied by Tracy Aviary, which opened in 1932. The aviary started as a private bird collection, donated by a Salt Lake City banker, Russel Lord Tracy. Tracy Aviary, which has 135 different bird species, is just one of two free standing aviaries in the entire United States.
