Travels north, east, south, and west of our Oceanside home base.

Buena Vista Lagoon became California’s first ecological reserve in 1969. It is one of my favorite, secluded places to go for a walk in Oceanside. The Buena Vista Audubon trail is just a quarter of a mile long, but it is a loop and with a toddler in charge, going one direction and then the other and then back again… it adds up. I love walking over the boardwalks, through the tall tule, and being surprised by birds popping out to say hello. A1’s loves pouncing in puddles, and identifying pickleweed. So, after a rain, the Buena Vista Lagoon Ecological Reserve has something to offer everyone.

Although the reserve is a freshwater lagoon we found a few crustacean carcasses, evidence of our proximity to the ocean.

I love everything about this from the boots to the pickleweed. We have so many amazing natural treasures all around us. Aren’t we the luckiest? Thanks for this. Such fun. “The world is mud-luscious and puddle-wonderful” -e. e. cummings

    1. Well isn’t that an ideal quote for today. 🌧

Looks so fun! I love her puddle jumping outfit. 😊

    1. Thanks! Rain is an anomaly for us! Unfortunately. So we definitely took advantage. Lucky for us we are prepared. Rain boots are the best!
