Travels north, east, south, and west of our Oceanside home base.

Day 0.5 of 22.5 days off began observing the sea lions at Oceanside Harbor. I couldn’t help but notice that the kayak/paddle board launch platform was moved from the guest docks to the sea lion floating island, built years ago to give sea lions a special place to co-exist in the harbor with human sea-goers. I guess the sea lions finally got what they wanted for Christmas, because for the first time in forever the sea lions were not lounging about on the guest docks and launch platform (preventing anyone from actually using them), but hanging out on their specially built floating island (with the launch platform attached). They have been trying to communicate this for years. Pinnipeds are so smart, and persistent.

WOW, there were so many more sea lions when you were there than what we saw earlier in the week. So very, very cool. I love how you hear their barks long before you see or smell them. Oh yes, the smell announces they are near. It is a delightful way to spend some time in the sunshine… ogling sea lions. A1 looks delighted, too. Woo hoo to your break. You need it. I can’t wait to see what appears here during the next 22.5 days!
